Some facts about FIFA World Cup

In this module, we are going to learn some fatcs about the history of the FIFA World Cup.

The first official international football match was played in 1872 in Glasgow between Scotland and England. However, the first World Cup organized by the International Federation of Association Football, FIFA, was held in 1930, when FIFA president Jules Rimet decided to stage an international men’s football tournament. The Federation was founded in Paris on 22 May 1904 and it is responsible for the organization of football's major international tournaments.

The inaugural World Cup edition took place in Uruguay from 13 to 30 July 1930. It was contested as a final tournament of only thirteen teams invited by the organization. Since then, the World Cup has experienced successive expansions and format remodeling and nowadays involves over 200 teams from around the world.
